This was the original image I used for the college magazine.
I wanted the model to have a positive and happy approach, therefore I asked her to smile. She was looking up which connotes to thinking, being alert, being imaginative and having an active mind. This was to relate to college students in the sense that they have to have active minds and a positive attitude.
Having the walled background made it so that the attention was on her, however could also relate to the walls of the college environment. From the research, I discovered that bricks were commonly used in college magazine covers, therefore this effect conformed to the genre.
I used bright red/pink for the coverlines as this will attract the attention and shows up very well against the white bricks in the background. This adds a sense of excitement and will make the magazine more attractive and popular. The masthead is a more subtle colour, but the size makes up for it. This was done to make the coverlines have more eye-drawing attraction but the masthead has the importance. I chose the word 'Answers' because that is what students look most for in college.
